“touchME: Dida” is more than a film… is a vision to explore filmmaking and dance in one project. This movie is a collaboration between filmmaker Felipe Barral and choreographer Lauri Stallings, who during the summer of 2011 joined forces to explore what can be done when both disciplines of art try to create something together, without being just a dance captured on camera, nor a performance done to be filmed.
“touchME: Dida”, conceptualized and defined by Felipe Barral, is a word game: the word "touch" on the title represents the physical contact that human beings critically need and dance promotes. The word "me”, in capital letters, emphasizes the different layers of understanding we feel through a single touch, and invitation to connect with other human beings. And then the word "Dida" is both the name of the main character, that represents "dance" in the film, and an acronym, which letters spell: “Dialogue in Dance”. Communication is indeed the topic explored on this film. Both the idea and the imagery informed and inspired the project and the resulting product showcases the beauty of Lauri Stallings compositions.
“touchME: Dida” was filmed at The Goat Farm Arts Center in Atlanta, GA.
